Dry Gas Seals repairing

Under the framework of the long-term Contract, ANOD Scientific and Production Center (S&PC) LLC makes on regular basis complete renovations of PDGS1/160-TA3-U-A3 Dry Gas Seal (DGS) Systems (manufactured by EagleBurgmann) that are utilized in Thermodyn Centrifugal Compressors at Northgas CJSC, a natural gas-producing company in Russia.

Seal Technical Specifications:

  • Seal Type: Tandem of reverse rotation  
  • Shaft diameter: 140 mm
  • Gas temperature:  -40 to +150°С
  • Dynamic pressure: 3.0 MPa
  • Static pressure: 10.0 MPa
  • Rated rotor speed: 9,000 rpm
  • Material of rings of friction pairs: Silicon carbide
  • Pumpable medium: Natural gas

 

  In March 2020 ANOD S&PC LLC proceeded with repair of these two Seals. Seals were inoperable. Useful areas of one ring of friction pair were worn out. Secondary polymer seal elements lost elasticity.

 Because of the inlet pressure loss in the Compressor, secondary polymer rings in the Seal were no longer tight. To remedy this situation, the Seals were upgraded; this upgrading involved further development of Seal’s case and its rotating portion for the purpose of replacing polymer seal elements with round rubber rings. Seals’ springs and screws were replaced either. Rings of friction pairs were unserviceable and were replaced with similar ones having diamond like coating manufactured by ANOD S&PC LLC. Upon successful completion of dynamic tests in April 2020 these Seals were handed over to the Customer for further operation, thus the Seals were repaired in less than two months.

DGS21/220-TA1-U R&PC "ANOD" received a Dry Gas Dynamics Seals (DRY GAS seal) DGS21/220-TA1-U for repair, produced by the «EagleBurgmann» company in June of 2019.              

This type Dry Gas Seal operated in centrifugal compressor «MAN TURBO» «Gazprom».

DRY GAS seal was in an unsatisfactory condition at the moment at the time of admission for repair.

The working surfaces of rings of friction pairs were worn out.

The barrier seal is worn out. Secondary sealing parts lost elasticity. Springs deformed.

Dry Gas Seal was cleared of dirt, were held replacement   springs, fastening elements, secondary sealing rings.Repaired and restoration of friction pair rings (lapping, diamond-like coating) was carried out.

The mechanical seal was transferred to the Customer for further operation after successful static and dynamic testing  in August 2019.

The repair terms such mechanical was 2 month.


R&PC "ANOD" received a Dry Gas Dynamics Seal (DRY GAS seal) DGS21/220-TA2-U for repair in June of 2019, manufactured by «EagleBurgmann» company operated in centrifugal compressor «MAN TURBO» «Gazprom».

DRY GAS sealwas in an unsatisfactory condition at the moment at the time of admission for repair.

The working surfaces of rings of friction pairs, the barrier seals were worn out.

Secondary sealing parts lost elasticity. Springs deformed. Some metal parts were damaged (teasing, dents).

The mechanical sealwas cleared of dirt, were held replacement springs, fastening elements, secondary sealing rings. For worn parts drawings were created and then manufactured again. Repaired and restoration of friction pair rings (lapping, diamond-like coating) was carried out.

The mechanical seal was transferred to the Customer for further operation after successful static and dynamic testing  in August 2019.

The repair terms such mechanical was 2 month.

R&PC «ANOD» received a set of Dry Gas Dynamics Seals (DRY GAS seal) for repair on June of 2019, manufactured by «DRESSER-RAND», operated in the gas processing plant of «LUKOIL».

Design pressure, dynamic, (MPa): 0,82-2,5. Pumped medium: hydrocarbon
Design pressure, statics, (MPa): 3,43.  

DRY GAS seal was in an unsatisfactory condition at the moment at the time of admission for repair.The segments of barrier seals had limit wear. The rings of friction pairs were worn out. Secondary sealing parts lost elasticity. The mechanical seals were very contaminated.

At the repair process the mechanical seal was cleared of dirt, were held replacement springs, fast ening elements, secondary sealed rings.

Repaired of friction pair rings (lapping, application of new gas-dynamic grooves on rotating tungsten carbide rings) was carried out.New segment rings have been installed in the Flowserve barrier seals.

The mechanical seal was transferred to the Customer for further operation after successful static and dynamic testing  in September 2019.

 

R&PC «ANOD» received a set of Dry Gas Dynamics Seals (DRY GAS seal) for repair in May 2019, operated in the structure of the turbocharger   ТК-R-393“VESNA”

Shaft diameter: 90мм Rated revolutions per minute: 10000.
Gas temperature min/max (°C): 60. The material of rings of friction pairs: tungsten carbide/ graphite
Design pressure, dynamic, (MPa): 0,34. Pumped medium: hydrocarbon
Design pressure, statics, (MPa): 0,41.  

DRY GAS seal was in an unsatisfactory condition at the moment at the time of admission for repair. The mechanical seals arrived in the repair without mounting plates, which is extremely not recommended when transporting them. Graphite rings of friction pairs were damaged were chipped.

Secondary sealing parts lost elasticity.

New mounting plates were made, springs, fasteners, and secondary sealing rings were replaced during the repair of the DRY GAS seal. New graphite rings of friction pairs were made.

The mechanical seal was transferred to the Customer for further operation after successful static and dynamic testing  in August, 2019.
